Sitka Black-tailed Deer

Odocoileus hemionus sitkensis

Description:

A small mule deer weighing on average between 80-120 lbs. Reddish/brown or Grey/brown coats. They are excellent swimmers and can often be seen crossing channels between coastal islands.

Habitat:

Coastal rainforests of northern British Columbia, Canada and southeastern Alaska, United States.

Notes:

I only saw four of these in my first couple days on the coast. Fortunately, I stopped for photos of these two.
