Yellow-bellied Sapsucker

Sphyrapicus varius

Description:

To 9 inches. Drinks sap from holes it drills in trees. I followed the tapping on camp wood stove chimneys to locate the Yellow-bellied Sapsucker. When I saw the pictures I realized it was the male and female taking turns with the tapping. Note the yellow belly on both.

Notes:

Great Lake Averill.
