Hexagonia fungus

Hexagonia vesparia

Description:

Hoof-shaped firm, thick growths with underside showing very open thick-walled hexagonal pores. The fungi were about 60mm long and about 35 mm wide and were attached to the wood by broad lateral bases. Spotted on a fallen dry eucalyptus tree trunk.

I'm glad to help! I've done that before with dandelion seeds. I saw what I believed to be insect eggs covered in silk on a leaf but ended up being seeds that just got wet and stuck to a leaf :)

Cindy, you are so right. it is a fungus ! What a laugh. It's a wonderful find for me and I am so glad it's not a wasp's nest.
What's funny is I knew I'd seen photos of these growths before but could not remember where or what they were. Thanks for the lead..I did get an ID from someone else.
