Dieffenbachia sp.
Variegated-leaf plant with a bamboo-like stem. The common name comes from the plant poison's effect upon ingestion. Raphides, or crystals of calcium oxalate, are responsible.
Tropical rainforest: moderate shade, high annual rainfall.
Other funny common names include mother-in-law plant and mother-in-law's tongue.
