Bladderpod

Sesbania vesicaria

Description:

Bladderpod (or Bagpod) is an orange flowering bean tree that grows as an annual and reaches 7' - 8' tall. These grow equally well in damp and fairly dry soils and bloom in the fall with delicate, almost orchid-like, orange flowers which cover the trees with color. After the blooms, come the 'bladderpods' - the puffy seed pods which contain 1 or 2 bean type seeds.

Habitat:

Thousands of these plants are growing along the sandy shoreline of Lewisville Lake. As the water has retreated over the summer, new plants have sprouted on the newly exposed soil.
