Locust Borer

Megacyllene robiniae

Description:

The larger of the two is about 1 inch long.

Habitat:

Goldenrod plant on the edge of a field and an overgrown brush area.

Notes:

Saw only one or two of these all summer and wasn't able to get a pic. Today I saw over a dozen and could have photographed them all day. Kinda weird. Oddly hot and sunny day late in the season is the reason I assume. My research indicated that this a mating pair. I saw two mating pairs today.
