Striped Skunk

Mephitis mephitis

Description:

This striped skunk was young and the last photo of the much more white skunk may perhaps be one of its parents. This skunk had a number of blow flies (Calliphoridae) swarming around it. My siblings and I were able to approach the skunk within a safe distance of observation.

Habitat:

Shrubs, including Honeysuckle (Lonicera sp.) and Grape (Vitis sp.), adjacent to an open field.

Notes:

Lifer!
