A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Caught and released as part of educational outreach during Tennessee River Rescue
S. Chickamauga
Ashley it appears that species is confined to Alabama and a small part of Georgia.
Thank you valgaavmiko, I was not aware of what needed documented for accurate ID of crayfish, I will be sure to include this information in the future.
It can be difficult to get a good ID on crayfish without being able to see the dentition on the chelipeds. You are very slightly out of the range that is known for the species I think it is. It looks to me as if it is Cambarus obeyensis which is rare (and a threatened) species. They've been found in Cumberland, Fentress, Overton, and Putnam counties.
