Red Raspberry Slime Mold

Tubifera ferruginosa

Description:

Small bright red colored sphere shaped fruiting bodies clustered together so they looked just like raspberries, hints the common name.

Habitat:

Very moist and decayed log.

Notes:

5 other species of slime molds were found on or near the same long.

Fabulous! Are you aware of The Great Slime Mold race held at the Massachusetts General Hospital Lab on May 16, 2014? They raced slime mold cells and leukemia cells thru a maze. Slime molds may help us understand cancer cells.
