puffball mushroom

Description:

These little mushrooms are shaped like balloons and grow in groups. When you cut open a young one, it is white inside. You can eat them. The older ones get yellow or green or black inside. Don't eat them. When they are very old, they dry up. When you step on them the spores puff out, so they are puff ball mushrooms.

Habitat:

They grow in lawns in our neighborhood. Found by Jadyn.
