Tawny Frogmouth

Podargus strigoides

Description:

Large nocturnal hunter related to nightjars. Masters of camouflage able to mimic dead branch of tree

Habitat:

Forest and woodlands, urban bush land. This adult bird was sighted in a banksia tree in urban nature reserve

Notes:

I recall sighting this bird when it moved from its camouflage pose. I raced home and got my camera and it was still there when I returned. This was 30 years ago and I consider it to be my spark bird
