Starry Flounder

Platichthys stellatus

Description:

A distinctive flounder- fins with alternative black and yellow bars, scales stellate (star-shaped scales), size: to 91 cm, 20 lbs (maximum published), most in the area around 12 inches or so although I have caught specimens above 16 inches (40 cm)

Habitat:

Sandy and muddy bottoms near shore. I have also caught this species near eelgrass beds and near stream/river mouths.

Notes:

Caught from shore with shrimp during incoming tide; Size: 19 inches/ 48 cm, 2.5 pounds
