Megalodon Shark Tooth

Carcharodon megalodon

Description:

Megalodon (/ˈmɛɡələdɒn/ meg-ə-lə-don; meaning "big tooth", from Ancient Greek: μέγας (megas) “big, mighty” + ὀδόν (odon) (from ὀδούς (odous) "tooth"),[1] is an extinct species of shark that lived approximately 28 to 1.5 million years ago, during the Cenozoic Era (late Oligocene to early Pleistocene). The taxonomic assignment of C. megalodon has been debated for nearly a century, and is still under dispute. The two major interpretations are Carcharodon megalodon (under family Lamnidae) or Carcharocles megalodon (under the family Otodontidae).[2] Consequently, the scientific name of this species is commonly abbreviated C. megalodon in the literature.

Notes:

You can see how it went down in this time lapse video. ;) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9POnsMv... Very old!!! Thank you Mike Harris the shark tooth fairy (find him on FB!) for the opportunity to find something so old and such a treasure.

Thank you!!! We feel so lucky to have such a great treasure. This one is about 3 inches. The amazing shark tooth fairy dives for the big ones and throws them into the ocean for the kids to find. It is so neat!!! Has turned into a huge local crowded event. One more hunt before school starts. Must get there way early! I'm getting goggles and must find a BIG one!!! Lol!! It is the neatest thing. Ever since my son found that sand shark tooth on the beach, I've been hooked on finding them. Which is why there are so many on my page right now. LOL.

Thanks!! :)
