Osprey

Pandion haliaetus

Description:

Large raptor that feeds mainly on fish. Brown and white with small hooked bill. Yellow eyes with a brown eye stripe. Wing span is wide. Feet are large and talons sharp. These bird actually dive shallow to get the fish.

Habitat:

Mostly large lakes and other bodies of water containing fish. Can also be found in bays and near shorelines.

Thank you. There were 3 at this quarry. One stayed in a tree calling. One caught a fish and landed. This bird failed 10 attempts both dives and barely hitting the water. Then finally got this one
