Buteo lineatus
Juvenile red-shouldered hawk
Woooooo!! Nice picture! very detailed. If a day i shoot one like that ,I would make a big poster!!!! Congratulations TampaDave
This is juvenile Red-shouldered Hawk. The tail is not long enough for an accipiter like Cooper's Hawk. Definitely a buteo. Size and lack of belly band suggest Red-shouldered over Red-tailed. Nice photo!
Take a look at this bird: http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l50/mj...
Thanks everyone. This looks a lot like a Cooper's hawk spotting I have, so I changed the species.
Beautiful shot...but I agree with Sam5...I don't know eastern buteos, but I know it's not a juvenile Red-tailed Hawk...gorgeous bird!!
Beautiful bird. I think this is an immature red-shouldered hawk and not a red-tail thought.
