American Monarch Caterpillar

Danaus plexippus

Description:

I spotted this fat little caterpillar head-down having already eaten most of the pod of a Fewflower milkweed (Asclepias lanceolata) in a butterfly garden. Monarchs love milkweed!

Habitat:

In North America, the monarch ranges from southern Canada to northern South America - and is famous for its mass migrations. Although native to North and South America, it has expanded its distribution to Australia, many Pacific islands, and a few places in Europe

Notes:

Spotted on in a backyard flower garden in Kennesaw, GA.
