Greta oto
Forest floor, Rain Forest Costa Rica
Thanks Christine, I hope that next time you can see them for longer....and get more pictures
Beautiful photo. I chased a few of these butterflies around the rain forest in Costa Rica last year. They do not sit still for long. Seem to be very motion shy. I was able to get blurry shots for my efforts. This is very nice.
Jonathan, this photo was chosen as one of our top picks for 2011! Congratulations! Please email me at yasser@projectnoah.org so we can send you a small gift. Thanks for all the incredible submissions and we hope 2012 is full of even more wonderful wildlife spottings!
Its really amazing, its like saying watch me!
Por que molestarse en ponerse color, si se puede ser transparente y tambien camuflajearse. Why botter in color when you can be transparent and camouflage. Cooooooool!
Actual name is Greta morgane oto. But you had already a correct ID. Oto is today accepted as a subspecies of Morgane.
31cm is huge... maybe you mean 31mm ??
(Transparent parts must be mylar [lol]).
A stunningly beautiful creature.
I think they're about 3/4cm tall. Not very big. That's why their size makes them even more delicate.
