Soapberry Bug

Jadera haematoloma

Description:

approx. 1/2 inch; the dusky black wings are not present in smaller ones and obscure the red abdomen in adults

Habitat:

leaf litter

Notes:

I've posted this bug before, but had never seen this behavior--can't tell if it is feeding on the seed. I believe the seed it is holding is from smilax.

Your spotting is very similar to mine http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/360.... Another user told me that they love the sap from the chinaberry tree and seeds
