Hippodamia variegata
A small beetle with red elytra, black head and thorax was about 6 mm long. The elytra had small black spots which varied as can be seen in the first two photos. These beetles were seen in the same spot as a number of native red ladybirds.
Spotted in a suburban garden near the garden shed, crawling around plastic planter boxes.
My thanks to martinl and bayucca for correcting the ID. This was incorrectly labelled as the Asian Lady Beetle Harmonia axyridis whcih is an invasive species. Also called Adonis Ladybird Beetle Family: Coccinellidae
Thanks Martin, bayucca and everyone else that's supported the suggested ID. i am glad I am wrong this time and that this is not the invasive Asian Lady Beetle !!
thats so cool! i didnt even notice that, Thanks bayucca for the advice!
I don't think Convergens is found in Australia, unless it is an intruder. The pronotum has a long white stripe in the middle, which is typical for Variegatum.
Leuba, I think yours is a Spotted Amber Ladybird, Hippodamia variegata. What do you think?

I saw this same beetle last year in the same location, on the dunes.
