This plant is known as the Traveler's Palm or Plant. It captures water in it's leaves and grows generally in a East to West direction. This is a young one.
Many areas in Madagascar. Sunny area when mature.
Not your average directional device. The picture of the larger one is nearby and shows a more mature tree.
