Male GoldFinch

Carduelis tristis

Description:

Bright yellow plumage, with black wing tips and white accents.. They are monogamous and allthough most breed once per season, the ones I have been fortunate to see do seem to breed twice per season..

Notes:

This male has been going nutty trying to feed its young.. Very territorial.. Won't let the other ones coming in to feed.. I do love the way they swoop in for the feeder!!

I thought it would occur to you. You are sure there is a nest now? Goldfinches usually wait until the Thistles are in bloom to breed which is later in the year. If he is hogging the feeder, it doesn't sound like he is returning to the nest quickly and he wouldn't make the babies wait normally. Of course if there is a steady supply of his food he can count on, he may be breeding.
