Description:

This looks like some type of Hover Fly. It has a rear tail that is at right angles to its body. The wings are clear and black spotted. The eye looks like a compound eye. The eye is purple the body is amber and the head has protuberance on it like a topknot.

Habitat:

It was flying around in a garden setting checking out the flowers. I wonder if that is an oviposter at right angles to the thorax?

I was surprised to see this insect.
