Cornu aspersum
Aestivating snails of the Cornu aspersum species, spotted congregated in a supporting concrete block, in the banks of Anavros stream. During the dry Greek summer, snails use to aestivate in order to save energy, retain water, and to avoid damage because of the dryness. Anavros stream riverbed is otherwise their natural habitat because of the grasses growing there, but also is the habitat of a stable colony of hedgehogs. Spotted in Nea Demetrias suburb, Volos city, Greece.
