Snowy Egret

Egretta thula

Description:

Similar to a great egret, but smaller, and with black beak and wings.

Habitat:

Shallow waters of a beach on the Gulf of Mexico, combing the shallow waters for a meal.

Notes:

Once plenteous in number, these birds were hunted to dangerously low levels in the early 1900s. Their plumes were prized as decorative adornments to women's hats.
