Haliaeetus vocifer
A journey in Alsace!!!
Mass, because of the white head, I suspect it is known locally as a "bald" eagle. But I'm sticking with African fish eagle - the bill is spot on. Another photo of an Alsase spotting: http://www.treknature.com/gallery/Europe...
Take a look at this picture also taken in Alsace, France!

massimilianotarello,
Malcolm here is the bird expert.
I think along with him we have an ID for you.
African Fish eagle this is the common name
Haliaeetus vocifer this is the scientific name.
You are ready to enter it in!!
My suggestion does not have a black tip to the bill so African Fish Eagle is looking good, especially if it was a captive bird being used in the display, which would explain its presence in France.
I think this might be a White-tailed Eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla) which has some isolated outposts in France. I will have to do some more checking, I have never seen one but its in my book.
Massi, Consider the source!!
Malcolm Wilton jones might be of help!
We can ask him!!
When i spotted it... i was in Alsace during a medieval's party with lots of battle and even those beautiful birds!!!
They told us that was a Bald eagle... so...
Looks mostly like H. leucogaster, the African fish eagle. Definitely not an American Bald eagle.
Haliaeetus leucocephalus
massimilianotarello, This is a Bald Eagle. I am not sure ,but this is a rare sighting in France!!
Also this beak is different from the American Eagle .
Therefore i am not sure if We can give it the ID same as American Bald Eagle?
Hi Massimiliano! I see you have three photos of different species in the same spotting. It would be good if you upload them in different spottings, because it will be easier for our community to identify them.
You can do this by clicking "Home" on the top of this page and on the left side you will find "Add new spotting". Let us know if you need any help and welcome to Project Noah :)
