Larger bird, Bluish grey body with a light maroonish belly. Black lines on face and an area of black and and white stripes on the wings. Orange beak and legs.
Showed up in the neighborhood a few days ago and no one has seen it in the area before
Hi Elizabeth. Chukar are popular both as a game bird, i.e something to shoot, and a farm bird, something to raise and eat. They are also popular as a ground bird for aviaries, to clean up the bottom of the enclosure. So it's entirely possible this is merely an escapee from a domestic enclosure, even if the breed was not deliberately introduced into the wild. In my experience, they are popular with the "Farmers Market" growers.
Thanks guys! From what I've been reading, this species has not been introduced to this area of the US.
