Apiomerus sp.
This was a very robust and vicious looking Assassin Bug (also called a "Bee Killer") with warning coloration. About 1.5 cm long. Family Reduviidae.
Heavy shrubbery along the highway between San Cristobal de Las Casas and Tuxtla Gutierrez, km 11.5, 865 meters.
Hi bayucca. I poured over these two spottings for a long time and finally decided that they are different species. Thank you so much for the generic name. I don't remember if the ventral side of the abdomen was yellow for either of them. Renato is my husband :) and we are often out hiking and looking for insects together.
Reduviidae, Harpactorinae, Apiomerus sp., same one like this:

Any yellow belly there? Who is Renato?
