Scarlet Macaw

Called the Chicos, Tambopata Research Center in Tambopata, Peru, boasts a few resident semi-tame scarlet macaws. This was the result of a hand-rearing project that attempted in increase wild macaw numbers. It has been stopped, as the hand-raised animals did not have a necessary fear of humans and were susceptible to being caught by poachers, yet the original nestlings return frequently to where they were born.
