Hypericum calycinum
The great St-John's wort is a widely cultivated low-growing shrub with large solitary yellow flowers.
Grows in Mediterranean climates. This one was spotted in the rockery of a nearby garden.
Hypericum calycinum can produce the medicinally active components of Hypericum perforatum (hyperforin, etc), which have been shown to be active in the treatment of mild depression.
