Junonia or Kallima ansorgei
Junonia ansorgei, Ansorge's Leaf Butterfly, is a butterfly in the Nymphalidae family. I first saw this butterfly on the outer wall of the house where I was staying. Beautiful blue on the upper wings.
It is generally found in dense forests. I saw it flying around vegetation at the edge of a small tea plantation at the base of Bwindi Forest N.P, a steep mountainous area. (habitat, see last photo)
thank you martinL and bayucca for coming up with an ID for this unusual butterfly...
Nymphalidae, Nymphalinae, Junonini, Junonia ansorgei, formerly also called Kallima ansorgei.

Very very nice.
The references I have seem to have paler coloring and more green than blue but I am confident.
I think Junonia is a superseded name so don't let the reference be confusing.
Thanks Marcelo, I'll look into that. I know I wrote the name down somewhere but I can't find it now!
I don't know the species, but I know it belongs to the Nymphalidae family. And I think it belongs to the Charaxinae subfamily.
Wow, that looks exactly like a leaf, except with beautiful colors! Nice find.
