spirula spirula
It was build out of segments. Not hollow through and through. Very fragile.
Found on the beach in Phuket.
You won't be able to see the squid, it's really tiny and is living very deep in the ocean, but I am sure you'll find more shells :)
That sounds cool. I'd love to see one myself - the shell but also the squid - preferably while diving :-)-
I found two, in my spotting too...But that's because these squids are abundant, and depending on the sea currents, they reach beaches in large numbers, although only a couple each time, is been spotted...But if you go to Canary islands, you 'll find more than just two in a whole beach :)
Sorry I have to correct this. I did not find it, someone else did. (I guess I would like to think that I did :-) ) so no credit for me here. I just took the picture. Did I loose my credibility?
So anyone has an idea about why I found 2 at the same time, near each other??? Do they die in couples?
YEAH Thank you all!!! Checked out your suggestions Despina and Martinl and that's what it is. Seems common, weird that I have not found one before (I am always looking)
This is from a rams horn squid.
It is a chambered shell and used as a buoyancy device, as in the chambered nautilus.

I am trying to re-activate this spotting in the hope that anyone has an idea about what this is.....
