Hirundo neoxena
Not sure on this bird, forked suggests a swallow, saw it by a river estuary feeding on the wing.
river estuary
sounds accurate, mine said grey underparts, and the associate drawing showed a dark grey
Thanks! The description for the underparts in the Simpson and Day reads: "whitish to dull grey-brown below".
Hi Aonach_Eagach! My field guide (Simpson and Day 6th edition ) shows a dirty white for the underparts.... Of all the swallows it seems to be the one matching best (head, crown and neck match very well). I used to often see them by the water in Adelaide or Melbourne. Out of curiousity which field guide are you using?

I was wondering if the underparts were grey or white in the photo, the field guide showed a much darker grey, but I'm going with your suggestion
