Teleconverters and extensions tend to do that. They also produce an odd vignette. The Raynox DCR-25o is a snap-on addition, like a lens cap. Have wanted on for a while, just never got around to buying one. Thank you. ;)
I have a set of Kenko extension tubes, but haven't played with them as much as I want. They certainly make it nearly impossible to take handheld shots due to making the end of the camera heavy. Tripods are kind of a pain to set up for things that move, so I've used them a few times when I can rest the camera on the ground or another object. I know I used them for this spotting: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/846... . Good luck with your search for new camera gear. Someone with your kind of photographic eye definitely deserves some good stuff!
I use a Sigma 105mm macro (f/2.8) on my Nikon (have had a D80 and now a D300s) and love it. You can get close shots without being right on top of your subject, which is good when shooting things like venomous snakes or insects that will fly away if you get too close. It's also a good portrait lens and works well up to about 15 feet or so. I got it because my budget was tight after springing for the camera, and a Sigma macro was half the price of the Nikon brand lens.
I only shoot handheld with my Sigma. Most of the photos in my gallery were taken handheld. I'm sure VR would be a great addition, though. This lens doesn't do well in low-light situations without flash. Long exposures don't work, even when mounted on a tripod. I use my Sigma for macros also. It does an excellent job! I might buy one for my Canon simply for that purpose.
The only sigma lens i got are the Sigma AF 70-300mm f4-5.6 APO DG, but need a tripod or monopod to use it, so i use the Nikkor lens most love the VR :P I'd love to change my D40 camera too something new. I'm look for a marco lens myself, but lenses here are very expensive..
Most of my stuff I've taken with the Sigma, and I'm fairly happy with what I've gotten. Did you just get this lens? The Nikkor 55-200mm is a good lens. Great quality (with VR no less!). I'm getting the Canon T2i and (hopefully) the Canon EF 400mm f/5.6L soon. But I'm still looking for a decently-priced macro lens.
The autofocus on the lens is quite horrible. Very noisy and always gets stuck (resulting in having to be sent in for repairs 3 times!). You're not missing out. Thanks for the compliment. :)
Yes, the Sigma AF 70-300mm f4-5.6 APO DG. I have Autofocus on my D70. I'm selling both the D70 and the lens as soon as I can. The D70 is currently being repaired.

Looks like a decent lens, Goody. Even better if you snap a Raynox DCR-250 macro extension, I bet. I will remember this one. :)

That's not good.. I have just taken 10-20 pictures with that lens....
I use the Nikon AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor 55-200 mm f/4-5.6 too most of my pictures

@Liam is that Sigma lens the APO?
If it is, do you have autofocus on the lens with the D70?
Thanks!
Aditi, I was using a Nikon D70 and Sigma AF 70-300mm f/4-5.6.
Brilliant shot, may i ask what lens and camera u use?
इसने मुझे मेरी कविता की याद दिला दी -
"यदि होता मैं प्यारा पंछी, नीलगगन में उड़ता!"
It reminds me my poetry -
"If I were a unique bird, I would fly in the sky!"
Thanks! :)
Good spotting in Flight.
