Filbertworm Moth

Cydia latiferreana, (Walsingham, 1879)

Description:

It is a small but colorful moth in the family, (Tortricidae). The moth has tan colored forewings with three golden metallic stripes while the hindwings are broad and black with some grey fading. The costal vein is also black and white striped.

Habitat:

Suburban, Fort Worth, Texas. Found at a mercury vapor bulb moth trap.

Notes:

The species is found in most of North America. The genus, (Melissopus) is monotypic only containing one species.
