Strix occidentalis caurina
Medium sized owl, inhabits old-growth forests in the Pacific Northwest region of North America. It is listed under the Endangered Species Act as 'threatened' due to population declines likely caused by habitat loss associated with timber harvest and increasing competition from the barred owl (Strix varia), which is invasive to this side of the continent.
Old-growth forests
Maybe someday I'll actually lure one out into the sunlight and won't have to flash the heck out of them. (Location has been altered somewhat)
