Scops Owl

Otus senegalensis

Description:

The smallest owl in the region, it roosts on tree branches close to the tree trunk during the day (as in example) it is very well camouflaged

Habitat:

Bushveld and dry open woodlands

Notes:

This is one of the resident Scops Owls at Satara rest camp. We were pleased when a neighbor called us out to see it.
