Above: bright orange with heavy black lines and spots Below: Variable -Hindwing dark orange brown to brown with numerous metallic silver spots and a broad yellowish submarginal band. Sexes similar.

Habitat:

Open deciduous woodland, forest margins, roadsides, old fields, prairies and utility easements.
