Charadrius alexandrinus
Dumpy, pale-looking pliver. Adult has sandy brown back separated from brown cap and nape by white collar. Black markings on either side of neck form incomplete collar.
Favours coastal areas, especially saltpans, brackish lagoons and estuaries.
Not a brilliant shot, but the only one I could get. I think they are a plover of some kind, and I would guess from size and markings at a Kentish plover. Photographed in the Rio Formosa National Park, on salt flats.

Thanks. :) It was calm so early in the morning - best time to go spotting these kinds of birds! Also saw stilts, dunlins and flamingos (photos of those spottings are up here too). Would have preferred a clearer photo, but the sunrise lighting won out for me!
Really lovely, Dangermouse! I love plovers, their faces are sweet :) This is such a serene, calm photo... really nice and chilled!
