Red-backed Salamander

Plethodon cinereus

Description:

about 2", orange stripe along top of the body

Habitat:

found this in a pile of composted manure at the base of a forested hill.

Notes:

This was spotted while shoveling manure for the rose garden. My co worker saw it and thought it might be a small snake when it was half covered with manure, but it turned out to be a salamander.
