The adult Silver-spotted skipper occurs in fields, gardens and at forest edges. It ranges from southern Canada throughout most of the United States to northern Mexico.
I believe annorion is correct in identifying it as a Silver-spotted skipper :)
I am stumped on your pretty butterfly. I tend toward a skipper, but the colors stump me.
