Jumping Spider

Portia Sp.

Description:

A male sp. probably. It was found on a leaf guarding the silk shack. Size: 7-8mm. White band below the anterior median eyes. Golden colored abdomen and slight greenish coloration on the head. Typical folded back legs. To my surprise, it was jumping backwards and not in front like other jumpers I've seen.

Habitat:

Tropical forest areas, gardens.

Notes:

These are amazing jumpers. Cannibals that feed on other spiders. Developed some mimicking habits.
