Dyer's Polypore

Phaeolus schweinitzii

Description:

Also known as velvet top fungus. Found growing in late August on the stump of a tree near Barclay Lake, WA.

Notes:

Judging from the color and texture, this was probably a fairly young specimen, but it was a good size.
