clematis addisonii
overall 2 inches in diameter, on a thin woody vine
spotted in garden growing on a jatropha shrub
suspect that they are immature seeds
Mystery solved! Hooray!
After another look I'm sure it's this: http://clematisviorna.info/clematis_addi...
I think I found it! http://clematisviorna.info/clematis_pitc...clematis ochroleuca is similar but not a vine.
I think the other photo you posted was the flower that made these fruits. Not all Clematis flowers are super-showy. Let me see what I can find for an ID on that flower.
How in the world did I miss such a lovely flower then. And the mystery remains what is thid that was seemingly in the vine? http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/603...
Yep, Clematis.
I would say clematis too from the leaves.
I've added examples of the leaves on this vine. They are rather sparse.
I can get them tomorrow, ceherzog. But I spotted this flower on the same area on the same type of vine:http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/603...
got anymore shots with foliage?
It really does, Kristal, but I don't recall those flowers in this garden (one that I see a few times a week).
That looks like a head of Clematis fruits. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clematis
