Hoof fungus

Fomes fomentarius

Description:

The fruit body of this tree-dwelling fungus are hard, hoof-shaped, up to 15 cm high and equally wide. The upper side has a gray-blue bar layer. The undersurface has a cinnamon brown pore layer that becomes up to 8 cm thick.

Habitat:

The fungus was found on vaulted birch in the forest.
