@SarahHiteWhitt this particular bird did not stray from her eggs for a minute. She was making quite a spectacle, fanning out her wings and vocalizing her distaste for our presence. I wonder how common it is to build a nest on the ground?

They are quite comical whenever they feel their eggs are in danger....they'll limp away and drag their wing in hopes that you'll follow them & leave their eggs alone. All an act!!
