Calidris alba
The Sanderling is a small sandpiper. It runs up and down the beach probing for food. Note that it is in the surf zone so it spends quite a bit of time running in and out (or back and forth) with each incoming wave. The sanderling has black legs and feet and a black bill. By the time they reach this area, they have faded from their more colorful plumage.
Coastal. Spotted on the gulf coast FL, USA.
The Sanderling is protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act in the USA. http://www.fws.gov/migratorybirds/Regula... http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Sande...
