Allograpta sp.

Syrphidae

Description:

About 10mm. Small, slender Hover Fly with an intricate black and yellow pattern on the abdomen.

Habitat:

Urban garden. Seemed especially attracted to marigolds.

Notes:

I took this photo about a week ago. I had seen this fly milling about the Marigolds and I snapped a few pictures. Normally, my camera has trouble focusing on such small insects, so I didn't bother to check to see how they came out. When I did get around to checking, I found a couple of good ones, including this one with both the flower and the fly in focus. I believe this is Allograpta obliqua, but I am waiting for confirmation.
