porcino mushroom

Boletus edulis

Description:

We saw a number of these huge, meaty mushrooms in the woods after weeks of heavy rain. The elevation was about 9,000 feet, and we were in mixed aspen/evergreen forest.

Thanks CorduneauVlad... I'd definitely feel happier about eating one in a restaurant!

Man, Tex, you should find some one that can identify these mushrooms because they are tasty. I had some in my freezer and I cooked some for my friends the other days and they just loved it. Most of the bolete family mushrooms are edible and some are really tasty. If you're not sure of your identifying skills you can always go to a restaurant and if they serve these mushrooms there don't hesitate.

Ha ha! We do the same thing because we are learning to identify them :)

Thanks Noe and Pili... I've read that they're really tasty, but my mushroom ID skills are so poor that I'd still hesitate to eat one.
