Cooper's Hawk

Accipiter cooperi

Description:

It's a medium size accipiter with a long tail (white at base is wider than on Sharp Shinned) short wings and an appetite for other Birds. It has a rather flat head, eye is close to the beak.

Habitat:

They breed all across Montana and the Dakotas up into the lower Canadian provinces. i expect this one like his mom 'n pop will hang around all Winter hoping to catch an unwary sparrow. Come Spring they'll take to better feeding grounds.

Notes:

Spotted this morning at a roost near the feeding areas. Why these posted sideways i do not know but nothing i did would make it change
