Orange Crowned Warbler

Vermivora lutescens

Description:

Dark greenish yellow on back and tops of wings, creamy yellow belly, approx 4.5 to 5 inches.

Notes:

Found in a desert Iron-wood Tree eating bugs off the leaves and branches. Located in Quartzsite, AZ. I understand the Warblers are migrating now so maybe it's just passing through. Sorry pics aren't better.

I changed the scientific name to lutescens, which is the brighter yellow western species of the Orange Crowned Warbler.

A quote from the Cornell Lab, All About Birds: "The Pacific Coast form, lutescens, is the brightest yellow. Found throughout the Rocky Mountains and Great Basin,"

Too much grey at the head perhaps?

I'm going with the Orange crowned Warbler. They have a more distinct eye ring like this guy.
